Dr. Rebecca E. Lee is on the faculty of the Department of Health and Human Performance and serves as the Director of the Obesity Research Center at the University of Houston. As a community psychologist, Dr. Lee investigates how the neighborhood environment promotes or hinders physical activity and healthy eating in populations of color. Dr. Lee has over $3 million in research funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Kaiser Permanente to investigate these relationships in neighborhoods in Houston and Austin, TX, and has published numerous scientific manuscripts in scholarly journals. Dr. Lee is a charter member of the Community Level Health Promotion Study Section at the Center for Scientific Review at the National Institutes of Health, and she has been recognized as a National Disparities Scholar by the National Institutes of Health since 2002. Dr. Lee recently received the Award for Research Excellence in the College of Education at the University of Houston. Dr. Lee has served on the Houston Mayor’s Wellness Council since its inception, and she has served as Chair of the Policy Committee since 2006.
